It is a premium oil designed for Harleys and those who demand the absolute best lubrication
for their motorcycles. AMSOIL MCV is the result of extensive research, and it is specially formulated to be
the best in all areas including high temperatures of air-cooled engines. V-Twin, 1450, 1200, wet clutch

How often should i change my motorcycle engine oil??
You should change your motorcycle engine oil and engine oil filter at the first 1,000-mile service interval and at
every 5,000-mile service interval thereafter. If you ride your motorcycle hard, under dusty conditions, or in cold
weather, the engine oil and filter should be changed more often. You should always change your engine oil and
filter prior to winter storage (or any extended storage) so that your engine oil is clean and free of contaminants
during this time period.
Can i go longer by just changing my oil filter?
NO! The job of the oil filter is to remove dust, soot and other solid matter. Filters cannot remove water, gasoline
or acids and cannot do the job of oil additives that have been used up. You should change your standard oil filter
at the first 1,000-mile service interval and your Amsoil EaoM oil filter every 10,000-mile or 1
year service interval thereafter or prior to winter or extended storage periods.
What grade of oil should i use in my Harley?
The recommended viscosity grade for all temperature conditions is SAE 20W50 Motor Oil.
SAE 10W-40 Motorcycle Oil is also available and appropriate for low temperature climates for the primary chain
case. The SAE 60 Motorcycle Oil is satisfactory in ambient temperatures of 60-80°F and above for Flatheads,
Knuckleheads, Shovelheads and Panheads. SAE 20W50 covers the broadest range of operating temperatures.
What are the benefits of Amsoil 20w-50 motorcycle lubricants? • Amsoil MCV Lubricant offers improved film strength for superior wear protection at high
temperatures, and improved deposit control for a cleaner engine, transmission, and primary
chaincase. Amsoil also has 2x the life as Syn3, which means less oil changes and savings.
• MCV Lubricant can be used in the engine, primary chaincase, and transmission.
• MCV Lubricant is formulated for reduced oil consumption, improved wear protection, high-temperature stability,
and superior overall field performance.
Whats the difference between synthetic and regular oil?
both synthetic and petroleum-based lubricants are derived from the same crude oils. but that’s pretty much where
the similarities end. Unlike their petroleum-based counterparts, which inherit physical components (including
contaminants) of the source crude oil in the refining process, synthetic lubricants are manufactured from
basestocks that are custom-designed from scratch to have desired properties for specific purposes, meaning that
engineers have complete control of the lubricant from start to finish – at the molecular level.
Can i use Amsoil in my bike right when i get it?
Yes, Right away. Amsoil Full Synthetic Motorcycle Lubricant is approved for all stages of engine life, including
the first service interval – which means it’s not detrimental to engine break-in. You can even use it as a first
fill upon delivery of a new motorcycle.
Since Amsoil is a High Performance lubricant, can i go longer between oil
changes??
YES. As with petroleum-based engine lubricants, you should drain and replace the motorcycle lubricant in your
engine at every 5,000-mile service interval. With Amsoil, we Recommended for use up to twice the motorcycle
manufacturer change interval (miles/hours) or one year, whichever comes first, in engines, transmissions and
primary chaincases. You should also change your oil filter anytime the engine lubricant is changed. If you ride
your motorcycle hard, under dusty conditions, or in cold weather, you should use Amsoil. Its is perfect for those
tough conditions and you wont need to change your Synthetic Motorcycle Lubricant and oil filter as often, like with
Harley Syn3. You should always change your engine lubricant and filter prior to any extended storage so that your
engine is clean and free of any contaminants during this time.

One of the most common questions we are asked is what is the recommended transmission oil
for both big twins and Sportsters?
The answer is for 883cc and 1200cc Sportster motorcycles, the AMSOIL Synthetic 20W-50 Motorcycle Oil is recommended
for both the engine and transmission. On 1340cc and 1450cc models, the 20W-50 is recommended for the engine
crankcase, 75W-90 Gear Lube for the transmission and the 10W-40 for the chaincase.

Reduces Friction, Heat and Wear
In high heat conditions, engine protection is not sacrificed with AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle Oil. It has the best
high temperature film strength (see High Temperature Viscosity Protection graph below) of all oils tested and
contains a heavy treatment of anti-wear additives to reduce wear regardless of the operating conditions (see Wear
Comparison graph on reverse). AMSOIL MCV is thermally (heat) stable and contains maximum levels of oxidation
inhibitor additives. It is extremely resistant to breakdown and engineered to prevent damaging sludge and carbon
deposits for superior engine cleanliness.

Provides Extreme Pressure Quality Protection for Gears and Chains With AMSOIL MCV, there is no need for separate transmission or primary chaincase lubricants. It is
absolutely shear stable and will not thin out from mechanical activity. AMSOIL MCV performs like a gear lube
without the negative effects of extreme pressure additives. In the FZG gear test, AMSOIL MCV achieved a perfect
score with a “zero” wear rating (see photo below).

Delivers Superior Rust Protection Motorcycles are prone to rust from storage, humidity and short drives. Rust can cause major damage such as
roller bearing failure, uncontrolled wear, compression loss and blow-by. Good rust protection, however, comes by
design and is not natural to engine oils. Unlike many motorcycle oils, AMSOIL MCV contains special anti-rust
agents. It passes the ASTM D-1748 humidity cabinet rust test and clearly demonstrates superior rust protection (see
photos below).

Provides Excellent Wet Clutch
Performance
AMSOIL MCV contains no friction modifiers and promotes smooth shifting and positive clutch engagement. AMSOIL MCV
controls heat and prevents slippage and glazing, and its high TBN resists acids that can degrade clutch material,
helping improve clutch life.
APPLICATIONS AMSOIL Synthetic 20W-50 Motorcycle Oil is
recommended for air or liquid cooled 4-stroke engines. It meets SAE 90, API GL-1 gear oil requirements and is
recommended for transmissions and primary chaincases. AMSOIL MCV is recommended for Harley Davidson®, Buell®, KTM,
Ducati®, Aprilia®, BMW®, Triumph® and other motorcycles where 15W-50 or 20W-50 engine oils or SAE 90, GL-1 gear
oils are used. Not recommended where an API GL-4 or GL-5 gear oil is required.
MIXING AMSOIL
AMSOIL Synthetic 20W-50 Motorcycle Oil is compatible with conventional and synthetic motor oils; however, mixing
oils may shorten the oil life expectancy and reduce the performance benefits. AMSOIL does not support extended
drain intervals where oils have been mixed.
Aftermarket oil additives are not recommended for use with AMSOIL motorcycle oil.
SERVICE LIFE Recommended for use up to twice the motorcycle
manufacturer change interval (miles/hours) or one year, whichever comes first, in engines, transmissions and
primary chaincases. For Big Twin Harley-Davidson transmissions only, follow the Harley-Davidson recommended drain
interval for synthetic oil of up to 20,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first. When using an engine filter
other than AMSOIL Ea, change the filter at standard intervals.
For “off-road” use, change AMSOIL MCV at motorcycle manufacturer intervals.
Racing or modified engines are excluded from extended drain interval recommendations. Oil changes are at the
owner’s discretion.
